about: The thing I miss most about being a teenager is running. Not for recreation, but out of necessity. Running from the cops, running to a fight, running because you had to and every step forward was another thought falling out of your head while you moved on pure instinct. You get older and burdened by mortgage payments and excess calories and one day you stop running.
The first time I saw the Unruly Boys, I got caught up in memories of my youth. They were fast and mean and they didn’t seem to even notice the crowd. They were running to keep up the songs, to keep up with each other. They were running out of necessity. They play a hard mix of classic USHC and UK82, mixing early Agnostic Front with the relentless attack of Ultra Violent. They don’t sound like a modern HC band, blown out with feedback and thumping along to a pogo beat because they can’t play anything else. They sound vibrant and sharp, a cohesive unit turning the corner and running towards violence and moving on pure instinct.
