The mighty SPINE are back, with a more honed in and deliberate focus than ever before (topped with an N.A. cover to lock-in the message). This is what hardcore needs more of. A lot more of.
"Himnos Mambises is officially out today. All tracks were put into one track in order for it to be consumed as a whole. Although these songs were written prior to the mass protests in Cuba on July 11th, it was timely to release now. With all the propaganda from the island as well as from those who aren’t Cuban, have friends that are Cuban, and have never experienced anything like it, it’s always been a struggle for us. The idea that you choose to reject the propaganda from one side but accept the propaganda from the other while ignoring the cries of the people, is very telling. Especially from those who’ve had the luxury of an incomparable life and chose to overshadow those of POC to further their own ideology. After all the messages from those who can listen to us from the island, it was apparent that SPINE voice really needs to be louder (more so than it was on Se Acabe). They need a voice in punk/hardcore to combat the misinformation that exists. This is for those who are constantly discriminated based on the color of skin and and sexual orientation, failure to distribute supplies (food and medicine) to those not in a position of power, being forced into sex trafficking, the list goes on. We fight for human rights, not just in Cuba, but in the US and abroad. There are many issues going on in our world, especially in our brothers and sisters countries (Colombia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Brasil, and more). Support POC voices from those countries. And if you aren’t from the places you chose to voice an opinion on, educate yourself and amplify the voices of the POC on the frontlines. Listen to them. Patria y Vida.
