Track from their album: Five Down to Tijuana, released July 2, 2021
about: “I think I know, what ya wanna, take the Five down to Tijuana...”
Bad Sheriff was founded in Tampere, Finland in 2000. In late 2001 Me and Janne travelled to Los Angeles for 3 months, both for fun and to get some influences and new ideas for our songs. We really didn’t know what to expect but in the end the trip turned out to be a good idea. Basically all the album’s songs are pictures, mosaics and flashes from our journey, about the endless and fuzzy nights, weird places, cafés and clubs, parties, friendly people, scammers, wannabes and so on - a kind of a sketchbook about that trip, you might say.
One of the stories ended up naming our album. On New Year's Eve 2001 me, Janne and our friend Miguel were puzzled by what to do that night. I suggested that we should drive to Tijuana Mexico and party there the whole night. Interstate Five follows the beautiful shore down to Tijuana. On the way we were listening to The Strokes’ album Is This It, which was just released three months earlier, and The Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers, while the sun went slowly down behind the Pacific Ocean. And yes, Tijuana was something completely different to rather boring Hollywood, where we had stayed in L.A. Without going into any details, I can only say that I took the Five down to Tijuana many times after that night.
“Taking the action with the psycho bitch, she traded her body for drugs and kicks...”
After we came back to Finland we went to the studio, but due to several other music projects we never published a thing. Now in 2021 it’s about time to send some of our babies out to the world.
