Swine Tax - garage punk from Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK https://www.facebook.com/swinetax/
Track from: SCREENSAVER EP by Swine Tax released June 4, 2020
about: With the recent addition of Euan Lynn on synth, ‘Screensaver’ sees Swine Tax further sharpen their agitated, hooky post-punk sound. Propelled by burned-out guitars and a breakneck rhythm section, the track’s sardonic lyrics express the existential terror of being cut off from the outside world.
Speaking on the lead single, the band said: “Screensaver is about losing your password. It’s an in-joke about our technophobia, but it also attempts to get to the heart of a more widespread feeling of alienation that’s fostered by technology. Lyrically we took a more direct approach than is often applied to the issue, by painting a vivid picture of a familiar subject we sought to highlight the everyday absurdities of a life lived online. We didn’t then imagine how relevant the track would be during this global pandemic - many of us are gawping at screens all day, slowly going insane and totally reliant on technology to communicate."
Formed in Newcastle upon Tyne, Swine Tax is the creative voice of Vince (lead vocals and guitar), TK (bass), Charlie (drums) and Euan (synth and guitar). Over the past two years, Swine Tax have steadily cranked out sharp, deadpan, riff-driven rock music. A dedicated and close-knit group, the band continues to hone a formidable sound that takes cues from both U.K post-punk and U.S garage rock. Well-known for their independent ethos, Swine Tax have immersed themselves in their home city's thriving DIY culture and have cultivated a reputation for cacophonous and high-energy live music performances.
