Platform 6 was formed originally by musicians from the REME staff band in 1965, plus a couple of civvy's, there were no guitar players in the military band . after a couple of personal changes, organ instead of guitar and a new drummer Eddie Pages, we recorded "Money will not mean a thing" and "Girl down town". Originally called " the Jellies" the name was changed when we were asked to back Billie Davis.

"Money" was I believe written by a student from Bluecoat school Sonning near Reading which is close to where the Staff band was stationed and "Girl" was a joint effort. I wrote the horn riff during a NAAFI break, Dave "Bo" Cripps the words the rest by the players more or less worked their part a rehearsal. We only made the one record owing to management problems. George Hall and I joined the English 'Amboy Dukes" George for a couple of months and me for over two and a half years, I made the first three singles with them.

Hi, Whilst many of you have the writers and musicians names for these two tracks you probably know nothing else of the originations or the band itself. I was the drummer on both of these recordings. "Money will not mean a thing" was recorded in March 1965 and, this is the bit bit you will like, its engineer/producer was non other than Glyn Johns. Platform Six was in part the backing band for singer BIllie Davis. She had a hit with "Tell Him."
The 'B' Side "Girl Down Town" was written by sax man Pete Danby who left the band as he was in the army REME Staff band. The lyrics were by Bo Cripps, the Platform Six vocalist. Whilst Glyn Johns recorded "Girl Down Town" The Pye producer John Schroeder re-recorded that track on the vinyl single.

The band broke up due to its manager spending six months inside for living off immoral earnings.

We had of all things photos taken by Patrick (Lord) Litchfield . Photographer to the Queen and many more.
I am writing a full memoir of my long time with bands and my drumming.

Hope this taster is of interest.

    Eddie.
