From OP: No better time to spread the good gospel on LA's Okie Dokie than now, seeing that this particular 10" was released by Aagoo Records (http://aagoo.com/) way back in 2009. August 6th, of 2009. As in, literally over a decade ago.
...oh god. Don't let it set in. Don't let it set in. Don't.
Uh... anyways. Okie Dokie was a three-piece drum machine punk act that spawned from the band's stint in CalArts. Now, I'm sure there's already some purists groaning at the sound of that word, "drum machine" -- or maybe it was "CalArts" that did it for you jerks, I dunno. The point is, Okie Dokie makes its sparse arrangement work wonders in this digital fever dream. A maniacal lead projecting long-winded diatribes -- indescribable in both temperament and substance -- into a microphone that's nearly as overdriven as the guitars backing it with supersonic riffs, shambolic lead melodies, and scuzzed-out basslines alike. With all of these components actuated in conjunction with the band's relentless drum machine rhythms, like a percussive machine gun penetrating deep into your spinal nerves, it makes for an album that has its phasers set to "murderize" from the outset. Okie Dokie is just as amazing as they were... well, ten years ago. I don't know why that's hitting me so hard. Huh.
