    about:
"Argentina is historically known for soccer, wine, architecture, Eva Peron, Che Guevara, and, more importantly, the tango. Argentina is also the home of Didi Wray whose second album of guitar instrum̀entals, “Misión Tango Surf,” demonstrates a good command of both surf guitar and the tango, a social dance known for its competitiveness and eroticism. Tango rhythms and time signatures are very much on display here, played within the context of twangy guitar instrumentals with more than a little hint of surf music. Furthermore, each track was recorded with different backing bands, which include one of Brazil’s most popular instrumental outfits, The Dead Rocks, and (of course) a track with Danny “Daddy-O Grande” Amis (the standard Mexican folk song, “Cielito Lindo”) who made Mexico his home base a couple of years ago. Other Central and South American bands include Los Protones, The Pulltones, Tango Surf Combo, Sindicato Tango Surf (with “Chica Surf,” a cover of “Surfer Girl”), Los Kaníbales Surf Combo (“Terremoto Stomp” with its reverb crashes), and more. Just as most surf instrumentals today tend to elicit feel-good smiles, so will the tracks on “Misión Tango Surf.” You might find yourself wanting to learn how to tango." ------ JOHN BLAIR, Jon & The Nightriders
