Pedico - punk band from New York, NY https://facebook.com/pediconyc/
Track from the album Endless Summer, released January 29, 2017
Though faithful representatives of New York Punk, Pedico's love for The Beach Boys and Southern California 60s surf music was one of the things that brought them together when they formed in 2012.
And though they covered tunes in shows from time to time, it wasn't until recently that they decided to do a full-length "covers" project.
In line with Pedico's themes of surf, fun, girls, and Americana, they've put together a project of all the great early 60s 4-to-the-floor Beach Boys tunes, some hits, and some lesser knowns, and added to it the garage-punk sound seen on some of their previous work.
Included are smashes like "Surfin' USA" and "Be True to Your School" (of which bassline and solo are derived from drummer Chris Miedaner's native University of Wisconsin school fight song - also the fight song used at Brian Wilson's high school), and lesser known but stellar tunes like "In The Parkin' Lot" and the Phil Spector rejected would-be hit, "Don't Hurt My Little Sister).
Replete with excerpts from live Beach Boys performances, Wilson family studio outtakes, and weird rare Brian interview clips, it's a record you can play all summer long and is never short on good vibrations.
