The size of the crowd was amazing, considering that the group had no hit record in Seattle and were relatively unknown at this point in 1964. Their popularity had to have been mostly based on word-of-mouth. "Ooh Poo Pah Doo", Jessie Hill's hit from 1960 was one of the most popular selections at their dances. Watching them perform on stage was as much fun for many teenagers as dancing was for others. If you were lucky, you might get one of the "Raider" hats that were thrown out to the crowd.
